Mobile School Teacher Mom is Demoted to Substitute Teacher

When I started mobile teaching (aka home teaching) my kids during the pandemic, I always envisioned that I would act as the Principal. I would delegate and everything would be calm as their teachers were sending instructions of work online.

I was so wrong!! I have suddenly become the substitute teacher who does not know anything. In school comedies the substitute teacher always was the butt of the jokes and got the grief.

Since mobile schooling I now see what an unappreciated substitute teacher is like. I keep on getting comments like, “My teacher didn’t teach us to do math that way.”; “I can’t write that way, my teacher doesn’t do that.”; “I can’t use my school computer for mobile schooling.”; “I didn’t learn that yet from my teacher!”; “You are mean!”; and lastly, “You can’t do that you aren’t my teacher!”

I am taking it day by day, as teaching is a definite challenge and learning experience!

Metal Sculpture Filipino Style

In the Philippines the carabao (water buffalo) is an iconic site. I remember during my younger days going to the hacienda and seeing the farmers with the carabao.

This metal sculpture was created in 2007. It is a type of junk art metal sculpture. It uses any scraps of metal that is available. Welding, cutting, hammering and annealing are just some of the techniques that were used.

Self Portrait 2002

In 2002 I made a self portrait. I was unmarried and lived in New York City. My then boyfriend Michael (my husband today) surprised me when he had the painting professionally framed.

This use to be one of my least favorite self portraits, but today the colors and memories make me smile.

I used acrylic on canvas.

Metal Art Sculpture

In 2007 I took a few metal art classes at the Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven, CT with famed metal sculpture artist Ann Lehman.

I learned how to hammer, weld, anneal, laser cut. I created with metal.

Below is a piece that I made shortly after I became a mother. It is called, “Motherhood the Beginning.”
